B1014 Somnes Avenue to Benfleet station cycle improvements

About the scheme

Essex County Council funded improvements Somnes Avenue and Benfleet rail station. These works were undertaken during 2016/2017 and reflect Essex County Council’s commitment to encourage cycling for both leisure and work by providing improved cycle links for residents and commuters, and supports the anticipated demand for the transport network in the future.

The scheme included:

• Upgrading existing footway/cycleway facilities along the northern side of Somnes Avenue and the eastern side of Canvey Road to meet current design standards. This will include extending the cycleway along the northern side of Somnes Avenue;
• Improving crossing points;
• Improving street lighting facilities and signage.
