Final call for charities to apply for Essex County Council’s RideLondon-Essex 100 rider places

Deadline for Essex charities to register interest in rider places in huge fundraising bike ride extended to Friday 29 April.

RideLondon – one of the world’s greatest cycling events – comes to Essex this year, thanks to a new partnership with Essex County Council.

The weekend begins on Friday 27 May with the RideLondon Classique, a three-day UCI Women’s WorldTour road race.

Then, on Sunday 29 May, 25,000 cyclists will take part in one of three riding challenges including the RideLondon-Essex 100 – a unique opportunity to ride 100 miles on traffic-free roads through the heart of London and neighbouring Essex.

This mass participation event will begin on the Embankment in central London, taking in the sights of Essex including Epping Forest, Ongar, the Rodings and Great Dunmow before returning to London to finish at the iconic Tower Bridge.

The formal process for charities to register for the RideLondon-Essex 100 has now closed but Essex County Council has an allocation of 150 stakeholder tickets which it has opted to allocate to local charities. The tickets are priced at £89 each. The average return for charities on a single RideLondon entry is £800.

Essex charities already subscribed to the event will be raising money for a fantastic range of causes including hospices, health and therapy, schools and education, youth employment and nature.

Cllr Lee Scott, Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Sustainable Transport, said: “With the RideLondon-Essex 100 already heavily oversubscribed we’ve decided to use our stakeholder allocation to benefit local charities.

“Whatever your charity’s size or cause, this is a unique opportunity to be a part of one of the world’s largest cycling events. The event is televised, and we expect thousands of spectators along the route, so it is a fantastic way to raise both the profile of your charity and much needed funds for good causes.”

Charities can register interest for a maximum of 10 tickets each with the deadline now extended to 5pm on 29 April 2022.

Riders must be aged 18 or over.
