Essex residents invited to share their views on proposed safer, greener, healthier cycling and walking routes
Residents are asked to feedback on new routes proposed across the county.
Essex County Council has launched a survey to hear the views of residents and businesses about connecting local cycling routes, which will create a new cycling network across the county.
Residents of Uttlesford are also being asked for their feedback on a number of cycling and walking routes in their area.
Both consultations, which began on Thursday 21 November, follow previous feedback given on routes in Basildon, Braintree, Brentwood, Castle Point, Chelmsford, Colchester, Rochford and Witham.
The council’s Sustainable Transport team now want to hear the views of residents about the remaining networks in Essex which will connect all the routes together as well as link up rural areas, such as:
- Earls Colne to Kelvedon
- Colchester to Manningtree
- Rochford to Basildon
The vision is for cycling and walking to become the safe and easy choice for travelling, either for shorter, local journeys or as part of a longer one.
By switching to more sustainable forms of travel, residents will have more choice in how they get around.
Councillor Tom Cunningham, Cabinet Member for Highways, Infrastructure and Sustainable Transport. said “We want to give our residents a choice in how they travel. This plan will also help improve health and wellbeing, improve air quality, reduce congestion and benefit the environment for future generations.
“We want to make sure that all the routes in our towns and cities link key residential areas to schools, employment, shops or leisure facilities, and the rural routes link to stations or bus connections.
“These plans are long-term and much depends on available funding.”
Residents can give their feedback until 10 January 2025 by visiting:
