Traffic restrictions put in place to protect local roads

New restrictions on HGVs and through-traffic set to come into force in Lower Sheering and Old Harlow.

Restrictions on HGVs and through-traffic are set to come into force in Lower Sheering and Old Harlow in the coming days.

Following the opening of the new M11 Junction 7A, restrictions have been planned to protect local roads in the area.

Cllr Lesley Wagland OBE, Essex County Council Cabinet Member Councillor for Economic Renewal, Infrastructure and Planning, said: “Since its opening, the new Junction 7A is already showing what a much-needed part of the strategic road network it is, enabling easy access to and from the M11.

“However, we also want to ensure that we see the right traffic on the right roads, minimising through-traffic and those trying to access local roads which are not designed to cope with larger vehicles.

“Alongside the enforceable restrictions, we will also be monitoring traffic data on Gilden Way and other key locations to look at whether other mitigations may be required in the future.”

The restrictions being put in place include the introduction of a ‘No motorised vehicles, except for access’ restriction across the area of Lower Sheering, from the B183 in the south to Station Road/Sawbridgeworth Road in the north, as well as covering the west along Sheering Mill Lane.

This proposal will not stop residents of Lower Sheering themselves from travelling out from the village in any direction, just the through traffic from the wider area.

Alongside this, an HGV restriction is also being introduced on a number of the roads around Old Harlow to again reduce the level of through-traffic.
