About the scheme

Arrangements have been made to carry out site surveys and trial hole investigations at Hercules Bridge located on Debden Road, Newport, Saffron Walden. The findings from these investigations will support engineers planning the future replacement of Hercules Bridge, which is in a weakened condition.

The works

Works will take place from Monday 3 August 2020 and are expected to take approximately two weeks to complete.

Works will take place Monday to Sunday and with noisy works taking place between the hours of 7.30am to 6pm on Monday to Friday and 7am to 6pm on weekends.

What is involved and how it may affect you

In order to support these works it will be necessary to close Debden Road to all vehicles 24 hours a day, seven days a week for the duration of the works. This will allow machinery and equipment to be safely manoeuvred on the highway and to provide the necessary protection to the public and workforce.

Advanced warning notices will be in place prior to any works commencing and appropriate diversion routes will be implemented during the road closure, including a separate diversion route for Heavy Goods Vehicles. To view details regarding the proposed diversion routes please refer to the information in the Document section below.

Throughout the works, pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

Further information

We are liaising with the Fire Station located on Debden Road to ensure disruption to their services is kept to a minimum.

We aim to keep residents and businesses updated via this webpage and site signage. Information will also be shared with the local parish councils. For details about other roadworks in the area, please visit: one.network or the @essexhighways twitter feed.
