In 2022 planning permission was granted by Chelmsford City Council (ref: 22/00473/REM) for a new railway station to be built on the Great Eastern Main Line.
It is anticipated that the new station will improve transport links in the area, reducing car journeys into the city and improving facilities for rail users.
As part of the planning permissions for the extension of Broomfield Hospital Mid Essex Hospitals Trust were obliged to make improvements to the roundabout at the junction of B1008 Main Road and Hospital Approach to improve capacity. All approaches will be widened to two lanes with a revised and relocated central island.
This scheme focuses on improvements to the section of cycleway along Bunny Walks between Victoria Road and Hillview Road, a route approximately 570m in length. The improvements to this route will specifically focus on ride quality and safety.
Chelmer Waterside is a large expanse of land to the east of the city centre which includes industrial use and the former gasworks on Wharf Road. Chelmsford City Council are in support of this a housing-led development, as per their Local Plan.

In support of this, changes will be made to the highway network.
The existing A130 between the Boreham Interchange and the A131 was originally built in the 1980s. It needs to be fit for purpose, particularly as Chelmsford continues to grow, catering for increased walking, cycling and public transport.
We are currently considering measures to improve the crossing point at Paper Mill Bridge, North Hill, Little Baddow as the bridge has limited structural capacity and is in an deteriorating condition.
Machine surfacing improvements are scheduled to take place on the A1016/A1060, Parkway in Chelmsford which provides a valuable route through the city.
These works will enhance the road condition, improving journeys for residents.
In August 2024, essential maintenance will occur to preserve the Waterhouse Lane Bridge on Waterhouse Lane in Chelmsford. Additionally, resurfacing work will take place on A1016 Rainsford Lane and Waterhouse Lane to enhance its condition.
