About the scheme

Marks Tey Bridge is located to the north of Marks Tey town and carries North Lane over Roman River linking Aldham to Marks Tey.

The bridge had been struck a number of times causing damage to the structure and carried a 3 tonne weight limit.

Bridge improvement works were put into place with plans to replace the original structure with a wider bridge and footway.

Preparations for main construction started in November 2018 ready for bridge removal in January 2019. This involved temporarily relocating the utility services (pipes and cables) and diverting the watercourse to allow the bridge to be dismantled.  A temporary footway was also constructed to support pedestrian access during the construction period.

The main construction of the replacement bridge is precast concrete box culverts which were brought to site and lifted into place.

The bridge fully reopened to vehicles on 17 May 2019 following completion of carriageway resurfacing.
