About the works

Preparations are being made to carry out ground stabilisation and safety barrier replacement works on a section of the A131 which carries Blackley Lane Bridge over Blackley Lane.

Works are planned to start on Thursday 19 May 2022 and are expected to take approximately nine weeks to complete.

Part of the works will involve stabilising the clay sub structure and this type of work is better suited to dry weather therefore it is essential the works are carried out during this period.

How it will affect you

The majority of works will be carried out between the hours of 7.30am and 5.30pm, Monday to Saturday with a single lane closures in place from the junction with London Road Roundabout to the junction with Great Leighs Bypass Roundabout. Where possible traffic management will be reduced to allow both lanes to be open during non-working hours.

The works will be carried out in phases starting on the northbound carriageway with a lane closure in place. Once the first phase is complete works will commence on the southbound carriageway with a lane closure.

Where possible, traffic management will be reduced to allow both lanes to be open during non-working hours, however for public safety, a temporary 40MPH speed limit will be in place 24 hours a day until the project is complete.

Access to Chelmsford City Racecourse will be maintained at all times.
