About the scheme

Essential works to Wicken Fen Bridge located on School Lane, Newport, Saffron Walden were carried out during 2024.

The structure was replaced using precast reinforced concrete box units and new precast reinforced concrete wingwalls were installed on each corner. An in-situ apron slab was cast between the wingwall elements to form a monolithic U-shaped concrete apron on both ends of the structure.

The pedestrian footbridge was also replaced as part of the scheme.
