‘Priority One’ road surfacing works underway in Stanway, Canvey Island, Basildon and Wickford

£25 million Priority One Highways programme continues across the county.

Priority One resurfacing work has started this week in Stanway, Canvey Island, Basildon and Wickford.

A £25 million ‘Priority One’ highways funding programme was announced in the Autumn. This funding boost has meant more highways crews and resources are available to address issues that matter most to residents.

As well as resurfacing, the funding is also supporting:

  • drainage clearance
  • new signage
  • road lining
  • vegetation clearance

Since the launch of the programme, 40 extra resurfacing schemes have been completed. 250 areas of vegetation have also been cleared.

Councillor Mark Platt, Lead councillor overseeing the Priority One project, said:

Our Priority One programme targets the areas and issues that matter most to residents.

“The works taking place are on top of the business as usual activity already underway. This extra funding is helping us get more crews out on the road and undertake work in every borough and district in the county.”

Resurfacing works this week include:

  • Tollgate Drive in Stanway
  • Leigh Beck Road in Canvey Island
  • The Gore in Basildon
  • Cranfield Park Road Roundabouts in Wickford
