About the scheme

Preparations are being made to renew the traffic signals located on London Road at the junction with BT’s access road in Brentwood.

We will be replacing the signals before they become unreliable and fail to work properly, upgrading them to new extra low voltage equipment and lower-energy LED signals. This will ensure the signals operate both safely and efficiently.

The existing redundant pedestrian crossing will be uninstalled, and the kerb height raised to the appropriate level.

The works

The works will commence on Tuesday 1st November 2022 and are expected to take approximately five weeks to complete.

Activities will include upgrading the underground cable ducts under the carriageway, replacing equipment above ground and road markings will be refreshed in the vicinity of the crossing.

What is involved and how it may affect you

Activities will be carried out overnight between the hours of 7pm to 5am, Monday to Friday, with the noisiest activities being carried out during the first part of the night, with less noisy works continuing after 11pm until the remainder of the shift.

Traffic restrictions will be necessary for the full duration of these works to ensure the travelling public are separated from operatives and working areas.

Traffic flows will be managed with the support of temporary 3-way traffic lights with pedestrian access maintained. These temporary signals may be adjusted depending on activities being undertaken, however they are intended to reflect the timings of the existing signals.

For safety, we propose to install a temporary controlled pedestrian crossing across London Road.

Warning notices will be used to advertise the works.
