The works

Arrangements have been made to replace the traffic signal equipment at the junction of A1321 Broadmayne / Ghyllgrove, Basildon.

Works are due to start on Monday 2 November 2020 and expected to take approximately six weeks to complete.

We will be replacing the traffic signals at the junction before they become unreliable and fail to work properly and we will be installing new extra low voltage equipment which will help reduce our carbon footprint.

As part of the renewal scheme, we will be upgrading some of the pedestrian crossings to toucan crossings as well as introducing a new toucan crossing across Ghyllgrove to improve cycling in the area.

Activities will include the replacing or renewing of underground cable ducts under the carriageway and pavements as well as upgrading the traffic signals and associated equipment. Resurfacing of the carriageway is also planned on Ghyllgrove.

What is involved and how it may affect you

The majority of the works will be carried out overnight between the hours of 7pm and 5am, Monday to Friday with lane restrictions in place managed by temporary traffic signals to provide a safe working area while operatives are on site.

We currently anticipate some overnight road closures on Ghyllgrove will be required throughout the scheme for resurfacing and to allow work to take place across the carriageway. These have provisionally been booked to take place between the dates indicated below:

13 November to 4 December 2020

The road will reopen after each shift. Please note dates may be subject to change if affected by poor weather or if unexpected issues arise. The latest information will be reflected on site signage.

Advance warning notices will be used to advertise the works and appropriate diversions in place during temporary road closures.

To view details of the proposed diversion route during the road closure on Ghyllgrove, please refer to the document section below.

We plan to adjust the traffic management during the scheme to keep travel disruption to a minimum however, we would urge drivers to allow additional travelling time and take care to observe traffic management and signage in place.
