Preparations are being made to carry out essential works to White Hart Bridge located on A1017 Poole Street, Great Yeldham.
The structure is generally in a poor condition with corrosion and steel delaminating in areas with attention also required to its brickwork and parapets.
The bridge deck is in a weakened condition and needs replacing. The new deck will be comprised of a reinforced concrete slab that makes use of the existing steel trough as permanent formwork.
Proposed works include the installation of a new bridge deck and upgraded bridge parapets and edge beams. Additional safety barriers will also be installed on the bridge approaches, with improvements also made to the pedestrian footpath.
The vehicle restraint systems (VRS) and the parapets across the bridge will be upgraded to meet current standards and a safety barrier will be introduced on all four corners of the structure.
Works are due to start on Monday 5 September 2022 and expected to be completed in Summer 2023.
To minimise disruption and to maintain traffic flow over the bridge the works will be carried out in phases with lane restrictions managed by temporary traffic lights.
A limited number of road closures will be required to support specific activities as they cannot be safely carried out with traffic permitted. Closures will be planned to take place during a weekend to minimise disruption. Dates are currently being finalised however, advance notice will be provided on site signage and will be published on this webpage.
Phase one
Construction of the bridge deck on the east side of the bridge.
Phase two
Construction of the bridge deck on the west side of the bridge.
Reinstatement works to the footpath and VRS installation (parapets and safety barriers).
We urge all drivers to take additional care and observe traffic management and signage in place during the works.
Please note that the programme may be subject to change if affected by poor weather or if unexpected issues arise.
We aim to keep residents and businesses updated via this webpage and site signage. Information will also be shared with local parish councils.
