About the scheme
Mundon Wash Bridge carries Mundon Road over the Mundon Wash waterway in Mundon, Maldon.
The bridge dated back to the 1940s and consisted of three sections, two reinforced concrete box structures and a concrete pipe that run under the carriageway. An assessment of the structure found the structure to be in a weak condition and required replacing.
Bridge replacement works have taken place with the support of a full road closure to allow the original structure to be removed and replaced with a combination of two precast concrete box sections which have been placed side by side, along with headwalls and wingwalls that comply with national standards.
The Works
Mundon Road was closed at the bridge to allow construction work to begin. The road reopened in December 2019 however some remedial works remain. These are planned for March 2020 with the support of temporary traffic lights.
These works are anticipated to start 16 March and take approximately four weeks to complete, after which road patching activities are planned to repair identified defects on Blind Lane, Mundon.
