About the works

A new toucan crossing and cycle route will be installed on White Hart Lane in Springfield starting January 2025.

The purpose of these works is to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists and to provide upgraded connections between the new developments of Beaulieu, Channels and the wider Chelmsford Garden Community, and Springfield areas.

The proposed cycle route will provide access from Barn Green in a south easterly direction and onward to New Nabbotts Way to link with the existing cycleway.

These works have been funded by Channels (Beaulieu) development under a Section 106 agreement (planning reference number 09/01314/EIA), to encourage walking and cycling.

How it will affect you

Work will be carried out on White Hart Lane and Barn Green, with appropriate traffic management in place at each location, adjusted according to activities taking place.

To minimise inconvenience, works will be carried out in phases which will include temporary traffic lights and temporary road closures where needed.

Work is scheduled to begin on Monday 6 January 2025 and continue to the end of March 2025.

Work will take place on White Hart Lane between the hours of 7pm and 5am. The noisiest works will take place during the early part of the shift, with less noisy activities taking place after 11pm.

Activities on Barn Green park will involve lowering kerbs and improving the footpath. Confirmation of traffic restrictions on Barn Green to be advised in due course.
