A129 London Road, Rayleigh - traffic light improvements
About the scheme
As part of Countryside’s planning permission linked to the Wolsey Park Development in Rayleigh, the existing traffic signals on the London Road/Victoria Avenue/Hatfield Road junction are due to be replaced and upgraded.
Breheny Civil Engineering have been appointed to carry out these works on behalf of the developer, who will endeavour to complete the works in a safe and timely manner.
These activities have been programmed to take place during summer 2024 for approximately six weeks, utilising the school holiday period when traffic is traditionally lighter at peak times.
To support the works, temporary traffic lights will be necessary at the junction, as well as a temporary closure of Victoria Avenue.
How it will affect you
Works will commence on 22 July until 30 August 2024, with the support of temporary traffic management which will be in place 24 hours a day, as appropriate, until the works are complete. Some adjustments may be made according to activities taking place, to minimise local inconvenience as much as possible. Where possible, traffic restrictions will be removed between site activities to reduce the impact on the network.
To create a safe working environment and to deliver works as quickly as possible a road closure, will be necessary on Victoria Avenue where it meets London Road. A diversion route will be in place with access via Vernon Avenue as no through traffic will be permitted through the closed section of road. Residential access to Victoria Avenue up to the closure point (including access to Maine Cresent, Regent Close and Sweyne Close) will be possible via Cheapside West.
To manage traffic flows on London Road and Hatfield Road, temporary traffic lights will be operational.
In addition, temporary parking restrictions will be in place on Hatfield Road during the works.
Due to the proximity of the two bus stops located on London Road, west of the junction of Victoria Avenue, it will be necessary to close both of these bus stops during the works to aid with vehicle movements.
Drivers are advised to observe traffic restrictions that will be in place and to allow extra travelling time as delays are likely.
