The installation of the new controlled pedestrian crossing on Roman Road, Mountnessing has recently been completed. All signals have been tested and are fully operational with only minor snagging works that remain outstanding but these are to be scheduled in due course.

About the works

Preparations are being made to upgrade the uncontrolled crossing point located on Roman Road south of the junction with Thoby Lane to a signalised pedestrian crossing.

Works are due to start on Thursday 22 July 2021 and expected to take approximately five weeks to complete.

The purpose of the scheme is to provide a safe crossing point that is more suitable to the high pedestrian footfall in this area.

Activities will include installing cable ducts under the carriageway and pavements as well as installing equipment above ground.  

How it will affect you

The majority of the works will be carried out during the day with traffic managed by a contraflow and temporary two-way traffic lights in place to provide a safe working area while operatives are on site.

We currently anticipate that a limited number of full road closures on Roman Road will be required overnight to allow work to take place across the carriageway.

  • Friday 6 August 2021
  • Saturday 7 August 2021

The road will reopen after each shift. 

Please note an additional overnight closure may be required if weather conditions delay works.

Access for residents located within the closure and emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times during road closures by a gatesperson. 

Advance warning notices will be used to advertise the works and appropriate diversions in place during temporary road closures.

Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.
