John Buchanan

Throughout my life I have been an outdoors person: birdwatching, hiking and, for the last thirty years, trail running with the Essex Hash House Harriers. This has led me to explore well over a thousand different routes over public rights of way all over Essex and given me a good understanding of the main issues regarding access, the desire to have linked rights of way and the need to ensure that routes are safe and clearly signposted.

Now semi-retired, after a career in the automotive industry, I am able to devote time through ELAF to doing what I can to improve the PRoW network, particularly around my home district of Maldon. Public access to the countryside can provide tremendous benefits in terms of health and  well-being as well as increasing general understanding and sympathy for the natural world.
