Welcome to the Highways Service Information Centre
To encourage and make walking and cycling safer, Essex County Council has developed a ‘Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan’ (LCWIP) for Braintree.
A Government led initiative, LCWIPS look to support a move to more sustainable forms of travel, particularly for shorter journeys. They are designed improve the links to key destinations that people need to get to, whether for work, education, shopping or for other reasons.
In developing the LCWIP, the connection from London Road into Braintree was recognised as requiring improvements to make it safer and easier to travel into and out of the town.
A key link into Braintree, it has been identified that there are a number of conflict points that deter cyclists from using the route despite the existence of an off-road cycleway. The planned cycle enhancements are aimed at assisting both cyclists and pedestrians and encouraging greater usage.
The provisional 14-week timetable of works starting mid to late February (Covid-19 pending) will see improvements from the Skiddaw Close cut through, along London Road to Tortoiseshell Way and will include:
Throughout the works lane closures, temporary traffic lights and other temporary traffic management will be in place to facilitate the works.
Please note that the programme may be subject to change if affected by poor weather or if unexpected issues arise.
We aim to keep residents and businesses updated via this webpage and site signage. Information will also be shared with local parish councils.
