Welcome to the Highways Service Information Centre
Considerable progress has been made enhancing the footways in Colchester City Centre. Work began in autumn 2024, initially focused on upgrading the pavements on High Street, Trinity Street, and Trinity Square. These have been successfully completed.
The next phase starts on Sir Isaac’s Walk from 20 January, followed by Culver Street West in February. These works are being carried out in phases to minimise inconvenience to shoppers and businesses.
Crews are removing and re-laying slabs, replacing any that are missing or damaged, and sealing repairs to prevent staining and reduce future maintenance. This will make key pedestrian routes safer, more accessible, and more durable.
Work on Sir Isaac’s Walk will be conducted overnight, from Sunday to Thursday (8pm to 5am), with temporary traffic restrictions, including road closures, in place for public safety and to protect work areas. We are also scheduling some additional work following Colchester City Council’s decision not to progress the kerbless street design.
Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the works.
Please note that dates may change at short notice due to weather conditions affecting the setting of materials. Drivers are reminded to check advance warning signs for the latest information and to observe closures, as no through traffic will be permitted during these times.
We would like to extend our thanks to affected businesses for their cooperation and support, which allows us to coordinate the works in an efficent manner with minimal delays.
