DigiGo’s low-cost cap for single fares will continue until the end of 2024.
Essex’s on-demand public transport shared by residents will cost no more than £2 for a single fare until the end of 2024 following the government’s extension to the fare cap.
DigiGo, the pre-bookable electric minibus service, has benefitted from the government’s decision to extend the Bus Fare Cap Grant for bus operators to 31 December 2024.
The grant was introduced on 1 January 2023 until 31 March 2023 before being extended to the end of October. Now, DigiGo’s £2 fare cap will remain until the end of 2024.
Essex residents within DigiGo’s operational area have been able to enjoy up to 75% off travel, where shared rides can be pre-booked and tracked through the TravelEssex app without fixed timetables or routes.
Councillor Tom Cunningham, Cabinet Member for Highways, Infrastructure and Sustainable Transport at Essex County Council, said: “This extension ensures Essex residents can continue to enjoy more affordable bus travel and provides crucial support in alleviating cost-of-living pressures.
“DigiGo plays a pivotal role in helping residents – especially those in rural and suburban areas – reach education, employment, health and social opportunities.”
