Colchester City Centre footway improvements Complete

Repair work to improve pavements in Colchester City Centre is now complete. The team carried out the work between autumn 2024 and March 2025. This is a partnership between Essex County Council, Colchester City Council and Essex Highways.

Residents, visitors and businesses in the city can now enjoy the new public spaces. The work focused on high-footfall areas including:

  • Culver Street West
  • Sir Issacs Walk
  • High Street
  • Trinity Street

It involved replacing and resetting damaged slabs, regrouting and sealing pavements. This will extend their lifespan and enhance safety and accessibility for residents.

In total, the team spent over 90 overnight shifts completing the work and:

  • removed and replaced over 600 slabs
  • used over 50 tonnes of concrete
  • re-grouted 3,000 square metres of slabbed area
  • re-sealed over 3,500 square metres

This has not only addressed immediate concerns, but is part of ongoing efforts to revitalise Colchester City Centre.
