Somnes Avenue – pedestrian crossing renewal complete

The renewal of the pedestrian crossing facilities located on Somnes Avenue, Canvey Island near to Meppel Avenue has recently been completed. All signals have been tested and are fully operational.

As the pedestrian crossing is located within close proximity to the Jewish Congregation of Canvey Island we have included motion detectors to enable the community to cross the road safely during the Sabbath. From sunset on Friday to sunset on Saturday, if a pedestrian waits at the crossing for a few seconds the controller will recognise their presence and automatically demand the pedestrian phase without having to push the button.
