About the works

Machine surfacing improvements are scheduled to take place on the A1016/A1060, Parkway in Chelmsford which provides a valuable route through the city.

These works will enhance the road condition, improving journeys for residents.

Temporary restrictions will be in place, including temporary overnight road closures to enable works to take place safely. Activities will be carried out in phases, with adjustments made to the roadworks to minimise inconvenience to the public.

Where possible we will carry out additional road maintenance works, reducing the need for  traffic restrictions to be necessary later.

How it will affect you

Resurfacing works began at the end of September 2024 on Parkway where it meets Rainsford Road, in Chelmsford. The southbound carriageway was completed in November 2024, however works were temporarily halted due to emergency utility works taking place in the area. Our works will resume on 27 February 2025 to improve on the northbound section. These works are due to complete by mid-March 2025.

To ensure minimal disruption, all activities will take place at night between 9pm and 5am, with temporary road closures in place. Overnight road closures are necessary to safely separate the public from the workforce, and to allow access for heavy plant and machinery. No weekend work is currently planned.

Our phased approach, working from Victoria Road South towards Broomfield Road, will help reduce local inconvenience, and temporary restrictions, including diversions, will be adjusted according to the location of the works.

Access to properties within a closed section of road will be managed by the site team. Residents are advised that delays may occur as they will need to ensure the area is safe. This will depend on activities being carried out and whether materials have set. Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout.

We urge all drivers to take additional care, observing road closures and diversions in place as no through traffic will be permitted when closures are in place.

Impact on bus services

Bus operators have been informed of the work programme so they can consider adjustments to their services if appropriate.
